John Cuellar | Survivor of Addiction
"Through Drug Court, I heard about Face It TOGETHER, and it was something new to me."
My name is John Cuellar.
I have a dark past of abusing many different mind altering chemicals. At one point, I truly fell into a complete spiral of over dosing, crime to get my drug of choice, selling myself for less than $10 for my next fix, stealing, robbing, and pawning things. I racked up three felonies and should have been locked up in prison but a program called Drug Court gave me back my life. Through Drug Court, I heard about Face It TOGETHER, and it was something new to me. Coming in with street smarts and being well educated, I truly thought this program was phony; I thought I knew everything. Truth came to be, I truly didn’t. This program taught me the true meaning of giving back to others who are in the same boat as me. Even though I am slowly in my recovery, I have gained so much. I now working with the American Red Cross and chair an NA meeting, which is something I have never done before. I am now looking into getting poetry classes up and running so that people can relate through their words.
